Hearing Aid Fitting. A hearing aid fitting is an important step in correcting hearing loss, as this is where your hearing aid is adjusted to function specifically to meet your hearing needs. This is also the time for you to learn about your new hearing aid, how to take care of it, and what to expect when using it for the first time.
What To Expect at a Hearing Aid Fitting Appointment
If you have a hearing aid fitting, that means you have already had your hearing loss evaluated and hearing aids selected for you to use. You may wonder what the great need for a fitting is, as you just pop them in your ears, right? Well, there’s a bit more to it than that. Modern hearing aids are sophisticated, adjustable devices that need to be programmed by your Houston audiologist to perform exactly as you require them to.
How Do You Take Care of Hearing Aids?
In addition to programming and adjustment, your Houston hearing aid fitting is an opportunity for you to learn about your new hearing aids and how to care for them.
Your hearing specialist will show you how to insert and remove your hearing aids, as well as provide tips on basic care and maintenance such as changing the wax filters and domes (if applicable) as well as the batteries, just to name a few things.
Many hearing devices these days also have Bluetooth capability, which will allow you to connect your hearing devices to your cell phone, tablet, audiobook, and other electronic equipment that you may want to hear directly through your hearing aids allowing you to not only be hands-free but to have the sound go through the hearing aids allowing for better quality of sound.
Your audiologist is incredibly thorough and everything that is discussed will also have an easy-to-read review sheet to take come, but this is also an opportunity to ask any questions, though if you don’t think of something straight away, that’s fine, as we firmly believe in following up with our clients at Memorial Hearing.
How Long Does it Take to Adjust To New Hearing Aids?
Adjusting to new hearing aids takes time and patience. In rare cases, people may feel right at home with their new hearing aids after just a day or two, but that is largely the exception and not the rule.
In most cases, it can take a few weeks or even a couple of months to become fully used to new hearing aids, so don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t feel right at the beginning. If you’re struggling to adjust, start by wearing your new hearing devices at home for short amounts of time, then gradually keep it in for longer periods, although the more you wear them the quicker and better you will acclimate.
What You Will Learn At a Hearing Aid Fitting Appointment?
Some people really like to delve into details, and others just want to know the minimum they need to go about their business.
